The region's first festival featuring workshops, performances and more, we invite you to join us on this historic event.

Day 1 (Friday 18 May)
Workshop 1 - 10.00 to 12.30
FLAMENCO ORIENTAL CHOREOGRAPHY (Sherlyn)
Fusing together two of the world's oldest dance forms, Flamenco and Oriental dance, this workshop will teach you the proud posture, traveling steps, skirt work, hand and arm movements of Flamenco dance. In this workshop, you will learn a passionate and beautiful Flamenco Oriental fusion choreography that combines both dances perfectly taking you back to the times of Andalusian Spain.
Props Needed: Round or Flare Skirt

ARGENTINA ISIS WINGS TECHNIQUE & CHOREO (Brancy)
Dance like a bird, fly with your wings! Own the stage and WOW the crowd! The Argentinian Isis Wings provides more versatility and pizzaz than the traditional Isis Wings. A cross between Isis Wings and Veil, this awesome prop is truly amazing. In this workshop you will learn techniques and choreography that will enable you to make full use of this unique and dynamic prop.
Props Needed: Argentinian Style Isis Wings (available for purchase before workshop)

Workshop 3 - 09.30 to 12.00
ASSAYA TECHNIQUE & CHOREOGRAPHY (Brancy)
The Assaya, or cane is a popular prop in bellydance. Originating from the Saidi region of Upper Egypt, it was originally used by men in a fighting dance called Tahtib. Women started dancing with the cane, mimicking the earthy and strong feeling of the male dancers, while adding their own twist. From a single cane, to a double cane to 4 canes, this versatile prop is definitely on the top of the list. In this workshop, you will learn techniques for Single or Double Cane and a choreography that is versatile enough for one or two canes depending on your comfort level.
Props Needed: 1 or 2 Canes

SAGAT POP CHOREOGRAPHY (Christine)
Finger Cymbals, or Sagat in Arabic are an integral part to Middle Eastern music. Always a popular addition in belly dance, the sagat is a fun way to add another dimension to your dance especially in restaurants or crowded venues. In this workshop you will learn rhythms and patterns for playing the finger cymbals and combine it into a fun and cute choreography everyone will love.

TARAAB CHOREOGRAPHY (Christine)
Taraab usually refers to Arabic songs that have emotional or sentimental lyrics. Some of the most famous singers like Oum Kalthoum and Warda are famous for their taraab songs. Dancers doing this kind of style will usually gesture or sing along with the lyrics and pour all their heart and soul into the dance. In this workshop, you will learn the lyrics to a famous love ballad, Egyptian techniques and how to fuse your dancing with soulful feeling, drama and the Egyptian style.

DRUM SOLO CHOREOGRAPHY (Sherlyn)
An exciting end to any bellydancer's show, the Drum Solo is always a crowd-pleaser. Combining precise and sharp technique with an understanding of Arabic drum rhythms this workshop will teach you some energetic and dynamic combinations. Packing lots of Lebanese attitude with Egyptian and Turkish techniques, this Drum Solo will definitely add some spice to your performance.
Dancing from the tender age of 8, Brancy is a former Rhythmic Gymnast who started her journey into bellydance in 2005. Known for her high energy and bubbly personality, she has travelled around the world to study with master teachers and choreographers, quickly gaining a reputation as one of Malaysia's finest bellydancers.
Among the first Middle Eastern dance instructors from Malaysia to teach and perform internationally (China, Korea, Indonesia, Italy and Argentina), Brancy is also a trained Fitness & Dance Instructor with over 15 years teaching experience in elite fitness centers with a good grasp of timing and complex props. She is also a winner of an International online dance competition casting for Bellydance Evolution (USA), a world class dance festival and show featuring top Middle Eastern dance artists and musicians and toured internationally with the group.
Dubbed, 'Indonesia's bellydance icon', Christine has over a decade of training in Middle Eastern dance, studying with world-renowned Master teachers. Founder of Bellydance Jakarta, Indonesia's premier Middle Eastern Dance Center, Christine has captured the interest of local and international media and is known as one of the region's trailblazers. As the only certified bellydance instructor in Indonesia, she is often invited to perform and teach overseas (Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, Italy and Taiwan).
Christine's performances are mesmerizing, a perfect fusion of liquid motion, subtle sensuality and exquisite musicality. Her talent is only rivaled by her teaching abilities which not only spans precise technique, but also the soul, values and heritage of Middle Eastern dance. Christine has also had the honor of directing and staging several successful large-scale bellydance productions as part of the prestigious Jakarta Anniversary Festival hosted by Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Performing Arts Theater).
Director of Sirocco Secrets Dance Company, Sherlyn has influenced the oriental dance landscape in Malaysia immeasurably. With a strong, dance background and training with some of the world's greatest master teachers, her excellent reputation, talent and dance mastery has earned her critical acclaim, including numerous media features and articles, invitations to participate in prestigious national and international events, including Judge at the Global Asia Bellydance Competition and high profile Charity events for Malaysia's high society and royalty.
Winner of an International online dance competition casting for Bellydance Evolution (USA), a world class dance festival and show featuring top Middle Eastern dance artists, Sherlyn has travelled world-wide to teach and perform; China, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, SIngapore, Brunei, Hong Kong and the Netherlands.
