Teach Me Indonesian Slang And I'll Teach You American Slang
Kabar!

I'm trying to learn Indonetspeak. It's hard to learn Indonesian netspeak because all they teach in uni's are formal Indonesian.

If you're trying to learn American netslang or slang in general just ask.

Terima Kasih!

Well, for starters. How do I say "awesome" or "fuck yeah". What's the cool way to say "hi"?

Here, the cool way to say "hi" is to say "sup" or "whatup". Please don't say "how are you doing today". I don't give a shit what the text books say. People do not talk like that. The only people who talk like that are foreigners.

I don't mean talk like an ignorant person. I meant talk like a normal human being. I have a bunch of friends from Indonesia and they showed me their textbooks. UGH! *facepalm*
No one really talks like that so when I read my Indonesian textbook I'm inclined to think I'll sound stupid.

So how do you use afgan ? Do you use it when something cool happens ? Or when something bad happens?

Also, I thought bro was sob (sobat).

Can you use gan in a sentence?

Makasih!

gan and afgan is different...afgan is more like the one u read above...but "gan" is short for "juragan"...juragan is like big boss...land lord...or owner of an enterprise...this word are commonly used in forums...our kaskus is the first actually...

actually, afgan is a male singer, he sing a song called "sadis" (sadist / sadistic in english) we usually use "afgan" to replace words like rude or something horrible...for example...when u sell something and haggling is allowed...and then u say (in indonesian) "boleh nawar tapi jangan afgan ya" / (in english) "haggling is allowed but don't put the price too low"...because it's horrible to give a price about 500k when the original price is 5 million right...?? D , yea situation like that...

bro and sobat is the same...

bro is for brother...sob (sobat) is for sahabat...here, they means the same (for calling someone)

now...teach me whatever slang used in the film "how i met your mother"

the one stuck in my head is "dibs"...what is that mean?? how do you use it..?? in what situation...?? D

Ah.

Dibs is something you say when you want CLAIM something. If you say it FIRST you get it.

For example, if you are hanging with your friends and you see a hot girl, first person to call dibs gets to talk to her first.

Scenario:

You and your friends see Megan Fox

You: Dibs
A: Dibs
B: Dibs
C: Dibs
D: Dibs

You get to talk to her first since you called dibs.

Ok. Test time.

There is one pizza left. Who gets it?

A said Cat
B said Dibs
C said Dibs
D said Dibs

Even though A says something first, B gets the pizza because he said DIBS FIRST.

Ya dig ? (cool way to say do you understand)

What is the cool way to say " This is fun"?

oohh....okay i get it... D

hhmm...cool way to say "this is fun"...

simply "asik juga nih"

"this game is fun" = "asik juga nih game"

the other expression is (u say it when u are doing it like your expression "woooohhooooo") :

- yo'iiii
- manteeeeeebbb
- asik coy...("coy" replacable with bro, man, gan, or whatever for calling someone, just like when u say "cool man" / "cool bro" / "she's hot dude")
- dahsyaaattt

...there's more of it, can't mention 'em all...haven't sleep yet and too tired to think...just say what u want...fun expression is random after all... ngakaks

'gan' is the short for 'juragan', meaning 'rich person' or something like that. it's not commonly used by indonesian ppl, only in kaskus D

goodbye
normal - selamat tinggal
slang - dadah (with tone, ask your friend. it's not a word), cabut dulu ya (i'm off, i'll be going now)

gw - slang for "aku", "saya" (me). there are some writing variations for that. 'gw', 'gua', 'gue' have the same meaning.

gk - short for 'nggak', kinda slang for 'tidak', meaning 'no'

aja - saja, doang, i dunno the exact meaning of this, but if you put it in sentence, 'i only want this' = 'aku hanya mau ini',the same like 'aku mau ini aja'. it's 'only' basically

nie - kinda slang for 'nih'. it's not a word. it's like 'makan nih', or 'gue beri nih'. i'm not too good at explaining this. maybe someone can expalin better D

but all in all, you should master the basic 1st. you can learn all the slang you want easily if you already know the formal ones.
