Stateless DHCPv6 (RFC 3736)
• No IPv6 address assignment (“stateless”); assumed that SLAAC or
other method will be used for address configuration
• Other network configuration parameters are provided, eg. DNS
servers, NTP servers etc
• Uses “O” (“other”) flag in RA messages
Stateful DHCPv6 (RFC 3315)
• Managed address allocation analogous to DHCP in IPv4
• Easy to populate DNS & reverse DNS (compared to autoconfig)
• Uses “M” (“managed configuration”) flag in RA messages
