Hi Gilang !

i would like to give my opinion ..,
\)

" But it's wrong because TOEFL only includes passive English, and ignores active aspects. "
Yeah it is, for the PBT ( Paper Based Test ) TOEFL .., actually The PBT is no longer exist in Indonesia " The International TOEFL held by ETS" , nowaday, The paper-based test is offered in locations where the TOEFL iBT test is not avaiable or impossible to hold .. iBT TOEFL is Internet based Test TOEFL, it's quite good i think, since it's the only test that simulates university classroom and campus life ..,
iBT TOEFL evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks at the university level..,
CMIIW ..

Speaking test in TOEFL? Like in IELTS? I never knew it before. I only know about ITP TOEFL hammer
How is the form of speaking test in TOEFL? Did you have experience?

I think this issue has the same problem with our Bahasa Indonesia...

We got Bahasa lesson since elementary school, but not all of students could reach perfect score, though we always talk in Bahasa...

So in my opinion, TOEFL Score not really represent our ability...

I think yes because the TOEFL test has undergone a lot of changes since when it's first implemented, to make it more thorough, to make it to be able to assess the testee's English skill more fairly.
And if it isn't, then it wouldn't be made as the standard requirement test to apply to so many institutions right?

BTW, a bit correction, your title should be: Does TOEFL score...

ngakaks ngakaks nice opinion ngakaks ngakaks

My opinion about this: No. The grammar idea is nearly useless for the real life (except when you're on duty with a English speaker hammer\) except if the grammar is like this hammer:

So, in my opinion the biggest thing you need is vocabulary, listening, speaking, and writing D

anyway, is it right that the TOEFL only consist of grammar, vocabulary, and listening test? bingungs I've never had one before hammers

to some extent, yes
although it may seems rough, people with good score in toefl tend to have good english as well (i wouldnt called it great bcz toefl commonly measure our ability only in certain area, like listening, reading, grammar, or in other word, passive english, since toefl primarily used as a qualification for university enrollment and passive english is mostly considered adequate)
but, i have yet to see people with bad score in toefl who have good english
they may talk or write quite fluent and confident, but if we take a closer look or examine, their structure is cluttered so it's a little bit confused to grasp the meaning of their sentence

OT:
I cannot stand in one side for this. To some extent it can be a yes and furthermore a no. I've never done the test, however I had "interviewed" a person who've done it. I don't want to be a dick or smth, but all I can conclude from that interview is "people who're good on the paper aren't always the cream on the top when it's come to practical".

I know who them are. Many of tourist-guide learn english autodidactic. They are sooo fluent in speaking. Although they make any grammar mistakes, I am still envy with their English fluency.

D*mn! I think it's ridiculous. They are making a monkey out of themselves. But what kind of TOEFL? We all know that ITP TOEFL is more expensive than that >( IDR 250.000)

hi there gilang7aswar

I really think you should come n click this if you want to discuss about TOEFL.

Answering your statement
But it's wrong because TOEFL only includes passive English, and ignores active aspects.
This statement is really not based on fact.

This is list of institutions that accept TOEFL scores.
http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/TOEFL/pdf/univ0708.pdf

This is the whole answer for what you may have in mind
http://www.ets.org/toefl/why

This is a pretty good video
http://www.ets.org/s/toefl/flash/TOEFL_Passport_video.html

The cost of the test can range from US$160 to US$250 and varies between countries.

They are, especially speaking, in my opinion, more important.
There will come a time when you deal with your thesis or your dissertation, I believe at that time you will be agree that academic writing is way more important.

We can't say that we have English ability if we never speak, aren't we? So be dare to speak! No matter how bad our pronunciation, no matter how not fluent we are!
I totally agree with this point. Practice your English everyday. Not for boasting purpose, but for the sake of our work and further education. Wishing you all the best, gan. Yb

Hi all
I want to share about my IELTS experience
I have taken the test today and it made me tired and also nervous...
In listening,at the first I was nervous, but i think i can do it pretty well...
In reading,I need more time to finish that, but i also can finish it at the end...Good...
In writing,I need more time also, but finally i can finish that...Good...
In speaking,I got number one,so I was the first person and i was nervous and I got quite difficult questions, but I could do it also...
How many minimum exactly correct numbers to get 5,5 in both listening and also reading???
Please pray for me to get enough score to study overseas...God bless for those who will take the test soon...Gbu...

what kind of TOEFL is that? sure, if your friends "bought" it in relatively cheap price, but again, from which institution? is it real or fake or "aspal"? i think it would be better if you got it from certified institution, such as ETP for iBT..

furthermore, it would be riDONKEYlous if your friends got 600-something (pBT) or 100 (iBT) for the score but poor in english.. my score hasn't reached 100 yet (604 in pBT, 83 in iBT hammer: ), but in working life, especially in dealing with foreign clients, my company still prefer to "allocate" their employees with adequate english proficiency, based on toefl score and how they actually work, communicate (write, read, speak) in english..

just my 2cent \)

hi all, i'm sorry to ask in this thread since I don't know where should I put my question.
currently I want to apply scholarship (it's my dream to study in Europe), but as you know, I will need IELTS score as one of the requirements.
Unfortunately for me, I'm not good enough at English, therefore, I'm looking for IELTS preparation class.
Could you provide me the course names and also the range of the price for IELTS preparation?
Thank you all \)

That's a job well done zipperia ... If you want to get 5.5 at least you'll need 25 questions correctly answered. GBU.

Hi dorami .. do you reside in Jakarta? I think for Jakarta it is better to take the prep in the http://www.ialf.edu/academicenglish.html#JKTIELTSPrep
The price range is 2.350.000 - 3.450.000. It depends on your skill, though.
IALF Jakarta
Sentra Mulia Building, Ground Floor
Jl Rasuna Said Kav X-6 No. 8
Jakarta 12940
Tel.(62-21) 521-3350

another plan is to visit the nearest TBI, I've seen that they listed IELTS Prep Program in their website, but it is not very specific about the duration and fee.
http://tbi.co.id/international-exam
http://tbi.co.id/tbi-kelapa-gading http://tbi.co.id/tbi-kuningan
http://tbi.co.id/tbi-sudirman http://tbi.co.id/tbi-fatmawati

if you happened to be in Palembang, you can visit Edlink-Connex Palembang for the prep program.
