[Preview] Shift 2 Unleashed
Original Posted By Ezio Auditore
Shift 2: We Own the Night
[SIZE="3"]In the dark, no one can see you drive off a cliff[/SIZE]

[NEW] PC Game's News, Preview, and Review[NEW] PC Game's News, Preview, and Review

When I get behind the wheel at night in most racing games, it feels like little more than mood lighting. There's something cool about cars trading paint under the bright lights, but other than slightly lessening visibility, nighttime scenes don't offer much. Except in Shift 2 Unleashed, where driving in the dark becomes a unique challenge.

Every track in Shift 2 can be played at night, but some of the tracks are out in the middle of nowhere, with very little lighting. The track is pitch black, except for what's illuminated by your headlights.

Because there's so little lighting, your competitors become your allies. They can light the way with their headlights to give a clearer view of the road ahead. I found this interesting strategy of purposefully staying a few cars back so I could watch the taillights of the AI drivers and read the course by their movements. I've never experienced something like this in a racing game before and it's enough to make Shift 2 noteworthy.

I'm conditioned on the rules of the virtual road. In racing games, bumping other cars isn't just a natural occurrence, it's a way to sometimes save yourself when misjudging a turn. Cut inside another driver, turn and if you go wide, you nudge them and avoid going off the track and really killing your speed. That tactic totally screwed me in Shift 2.

It's not usually easy to make it through a long, tough race with aggressive AI and come away with both headlights intact in almost any racing game. When I lost my headlights in a night race in Shift 2, I doubled the difficulty. It's hard enough to see the track with my headlights on. Once I lost those, I couldn't see the turns ahead. My former strategy of following other cars went from "cool idea" to "necessity." Without the other drivers, I'd easily miss a turn, hit a median, even get lost.

Combine this with the new helmet camera -- which brilliantly replicates a driver's head movements -- and night racing becomes almost tangible. Forget trying to win the race, just trying to survive without headlights was tense enough.

I honestly don't know if the rest of Shift 2 can equal the night track experience, but if it does, we might not be snickering at EA's boast of taking down Forza and Gran Turismo. What I can promise is that when the sun goes down in Shift 2, it's not just a cheap visual stunt. The dark has a significant impact on gameplay. Other racing game developers should take notice -- this is how you own the night.

Brink is an immersive first-person shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character whether playing alone, with your friends, or against others online. You decide the combat role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankind's last refuge. Brink offers a compelling mix of dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system that will keep you coming back for more.

-Character customization:
Brink's advanced player customization offers a near-endless combination of looks for your character. From clothing and accessories, to body type and voice pack, your character is not just another generic hero.
As you progress through the game and acquire more experience, you'll have even more opportunities for customization. Unlock class abilities and weapon attachments that let you complement your gameplay, or build a team of specialists with your friends or clanmates.

-Each of the four classes are built around a core set of skills, but leveling up will allow you to unlock new abilities and items or specialize into one area of a class. So no two soldiers, two operatives, two engineers or two medics will be exactly the same.

-Using the objective wheel, you can always see your current primary objective. That objective will be driven dynamically based on real-time battlefield data, such as your class, condition and location, as well your teammates and the overall status of battle. As a result, you'll always know exactly where to go, what to do when you get there, and what your reward will be for success.

Freedom of movement:
-Brink introduces a revolutionary interpretive movement system we call SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain). SMART dynamically evaluates where you're trying to get to or what you're trying to do, and makes it happen: vaulting, mantling, climbing, sliding, and even seeking cover. This means you make the tactical decisions of where to move and the route to take, the system helps you do it in the coolest way possible

-Ability to Parkour

Spoiler for Classes and Game mode

The four classes

* Soldier: The soldier is the main fighting machine in the team. He is also able to plant explosives.
* Engineer: The engineer is able to fix and repair things. This character is good for supporting roles and allows to circumvent obstactles. Additionally, he can defuse explosives.
* Medic: Yeah, you probably guessed it, he can heal team mates.
* Operative: This one can disguise himself and sneak around. Also he can interrogate prisoners and hack into computer systems.

According to the information Ed Stern (Senior Game Desinger – Splash Damage) told in several interviews on the E3 2009. The greater idea behind the class system and several game mechanics is to increase the overall teamplay – and thus multiplayer experience – of the game. He actually says that they are bribing the players with experience points to be better team players by telling them what you will get for certain actions. Who says that first person shooter gaming can’t be a social gaming experience ;)

Off the back of Codemasters' sterling run of off-road games, DiRT was divisive; for some its focus on driving as an extreme sport detracted from the series' bread and butter, an aspect that was confounded by the full-on American twang picked up by its sequel. There's some bad news for those who were dismissive: DiRT 3 takes that outlook to its logical conclusion, funnelling the driving engine into a game that's sometimes got more in common with Tony Hawks than Colin McRae. Oh, and here's the good news: 60% of DiRT 3 will be pure and focussed point-to-point rally, taking place in full-blooded rally cars cherry picked from the sport's history.

Sumber: http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/082/082109.html

Coming 2011, DiRT 3 will boast more cars, more locations, more routes and more events than any other game in the series, including over 50 rally cars representing the very best from five decades of the sport. With more than double the track content of 2009’s hit, DiRT 3 will see players start at the top as a professional driver, with a top-flight career in competitive off-road racing complimented by the opportunity to express themselves in Gymkhana-style showpiece driving events.

As players race to elevate their global standing, DiRT 3 delivers mud, sweat and gears world over: from the intense weather-beaten rally stages of Europe, Africa and the US, to executing performance driving showcases and career challenges where car control is pushed to spectacular limits. DiRT 3 is now in development at Codemasters Studios for a 2011 release for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC Games For Windows® LIVE.

[NEW] PC Game's News, Preview, and Review
Portal 2 will continue to challenge the player by solving puzzles in test chambers within the Aperture Science Enrichment Center using the portal gun (the Aperture Science Hand-held Portal Device), a device that can create two portals connecting two surfaces across space. Players, as the silent protagonist Chell from Portal, solve puzzles by using these portals to move unconventionally between rooms or to use the ability to fling objects or themselves across a distance. The functionality of the gun has not changed between the games, but within Portal 2, players can take advantage of the bleeding of other physical effects through the portals. Game Informer identified two examples of this: one was the ability to use air currents created by Pneumatic Diversity Vents, a series of transport pneumatic tubes, through a set of portal openings to push a turret over or to draw objects into the suction. The second example was to use the power of Excursion Funnel tractor beams through portals to bring Chell or other objects to otherwise inaccessible areas. The game also introduces special paint-like gels that can be used to impart certain physical effects to a surface such as Propulsion Gel that boosts Chell's speed as she crosses a surface, and Repulsion Gel that allows her to jump from a surface. The player will be required to determine how to transport that gel to appropriate surfaces using portals in order to progress. The gels can also be applied to objects, such as the Weighted Storage Cube crates, that affect their own physical nature. In addition to the Storage Cube, there are new types of portable objects that assist the player, including Redirection Cubes with mirrored, reflective surfaces used to redirect Thermal Discouragement laser beams, Aerial Faith Plates that can launch objects placed on them, and spherical Weighted Storage Balls, which made a brief appearance in the original game in one of the advanced chambers. A further new concept includes Hard Light Bridges that can be crossed when lit, and can be extended and redirected through portals.

While most of the single-player game will take place in the test chambers created by GLaDOS or her personality cores, there will be times where the player will need to move behind-the-scenes in areas beyond the test chambers as they are reconfigured, leaving the player free of GLaDOS's observation and control.

The game will include a two-player co-operative mode in addition to the single player mode. Both players control separate portal guns and can use the other player's portals as necessary; each player's portals will be of a different color scheme (blue/purple, and orange/red) to help distinguish between the two sets. Because of the number of possible portal combinations, the test chambers that the players proceed through are much more difficult than the single-player campaign, requiring the two players to work together. This includes complicated laser redirection using both series of portals, or working in two separate chambers, performing actions in their side of the chamber to allow the other player to progress in theirs. Should either robot die, a new robot will be recreated shortly after, allowing players to continue on the puzzle. The game includes voice communication between players for this mode as well as split-screen for players playing locally. Online players will have the ability to temporarily enter a split-screen view to help coordinate actions. Players have the ability to place icons on the game's levels as a means of informing the other player what they need to do, and perform emotes with their partner, such as waving or hugging. Valve has stated that both the single player and the co-operative campaigns are about each twice as long as the original campaign in Portal. Erik Woplaw estimates each campaign is about six hours long.

As with previous Valve games Portal 2 will contain in game commentary from the game developers, writers, and artists. The commentary, accessed after completing the game once, appears on node icons scattered through the game's levels where the development team found significant changes from their original ideas, or where ideas failed to work out for the game.

[NEWS] Hitman 5 out Xmas 2011

Danish developer IO Interactive is hard at work on the next game in the popular Hitman series, Eurogamer has learned.

The PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title will be released "at the very earliest Christmas next year", one source told us.

The claim was backed up by retail sources, who have indicated to Eurogamer that a release later in 2011 "will be most likely".

Rumour of a fifth game in the stealth-em-up series has been rife since the release of the last Hitman game, 2006's Blood Money.

In June last year Variety reported that a new Hitman film was in the works and contained story elements from Hitman 5, due to be released in late 2010. We know that the reported release date is incorrect.

In June 2009 an IO community manager said: "I can tell you that there is no way we will be basing a storyline for a new Hitman game on the story in a licensed movie. That's just not how we work so you shouldn't be concerned about that."

Earlier this week Hitman 5 posters popped up on the internet, setting fans' tongues wagging.

IO Interactive said the artwork "does not represent any new Hitman game", but we’ve been told they "likely" relate to the game.

The posters have since been removed.

Backing up our source's information is online retailer Play.com, which says Hitman 5 will be released on 28th November 2011.

Play had not responded to Eurogamer at the time of publishing.

In the four years since the release of Hitman 4, IO has put out third-person action game Kane & Lynch and cutesy third-person action game Mini Ninjas. Sequel Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is due out on 20th August in the UK.

Now the studio is working full throttle on bringing everyone's favourite bald-headed assassin back.

News of a new Hitman game should come as no surprise. The series has sold over seven million copies to date.

Indeed, in 2007 Eidos' then parent company Sci Entertainment said in its annual report: "We have invested significantly in the pipeline of products for 2008 and beyond and we are looking forward with much anticipation to the sequels to Just Cause and Battlestations: Midway, which are already in development, and new versions of world-leading franchises Tomb Raider and Hitman."

And then in 2008 SCi again mentioned the game, saying IO is "already working on a brand-new franchise along with the fifth Hitman game and a sequel to Kane & Lynch".

Square Enix told Eurogamer: "It's flattering to see so many fans are eager for another Hitman game. Unfortunately we have nothing to announce at this time."
