Fabrizio turns it around with Assen top five
Michel Fabrizio suggests he could have achieved more had he qualified higher than 13th for the two World Superbike races at Assen.

Spoiler for news

Michel Fabrizio shrugged of a 13th place starting position during the latest round of the World Superbike Championship at Assen to claim a fine top five finish.

The Italian began both races from the fourth row after being nudged out of Q1 during Superpole, but relentless pace during the early stages of race one saw him claw his way up the order to run as high as fourth at one stage.

Though he was reeled in and passed by Marco Melandri in the closing stages, Fabrizio was still able to hold on for fifth, before adding a seventh position to his tally in race two.

However, while Fabrizio was delighted with his race pace on the Suzuki Alstare, he lamented having to do it from a lowly grid position.

“Generally I am quite please with our performance, especially considering that I had to start from the fourth row of the grid,” he said. “I didn't make a good start in the first race, but managed to get into fourth by lap twelve. It had taken some time to get past some of the riders, but I was fairly comfortable in fourth until a few laps from the end.

My front tyre was already moving about a lot by the time Melandri came past and although I tried to catch him again, the tyre wasn't up to it, so I had to be satisfied with fifth instead.

“I used the same tyres (soft front and rear) for race two, but this time, they began to go off after only six laps. From then it was a real struggle to push hard enough to catch and pass Haslam and Laverty, but I kept trying right to end of the race. At the finish, I was just one tenth of a second behind Laverty, so it was pretty close.

“Although it was quite a good day for us, it would've been so much better if I had not have had the problem in Superpole. I am convinced that if I had been on the first or second row of the grid today, I would've got on the podium for sure - and maybe have even won a race!”

HAVE YOUR SAY: Who was the star of Assen?
Jonathan Rea, Carlos Checa and Chaz Davies were all worthy winners at Assen, but are they worthy enough to be awarded your rider of the day...?

Spoiler for news

Six races in and World Superbike Championship 2011 is already looking like Carlos Checa's to lose, the Spaniard having opened up a 43 point gap at the top of the standings.

Indeed, Checa has now almost doubled his WSBK career victory tally in just three weekends – compared to three seasons -, the Spaniard putting in an almost faultless performance at Assen, distinguished by his bold pass for the win on Biaggi with just a lap to go.

Nonetheless, Checa wasn't the only star from Assen, the Althea Ducati man sharing the victory spoils with Jonathan Rea, who made a welcome return to the winners' circle after a measured ride that was in contrast to a fairly stressful opening two rounds.

Biaggi can also be pleased with two second place finishes, though he was consistently out-classed by Checa over the course of the weekend.

Elsewhere, Leon Camier showed front-running pace but his progress was stunted by a mid-field grid position and a mechanical issue that ruled him out of race one before it had even started. Despite this, the Aprilia rider is showing encouraging pace this year – when his health and bike allows.

Leon Haslam put in a sterling ride for fifth in race two, while Michel Fabrizio was also an impressive top five finisher from the mid-pack.

Of course, the best rides don't always occur at the front of the field… He may not command much air time, but a top ten finish for WSBK rookie Mark Aitchison on the unheralded Pedercini Kawasaki was significant for two reasons – it was Pedercini's best finish since 2008 and the Australian also finished ahead of the factory Kawasaki riders…

Chaz Davies also warrants a mention for his excellent ride in the World Supersport Championship, the Welshman keeping his head while those around him were losing theirs.

But what do you think? Simply click on the 'comments' link below and share your thoughts on who you think was rider of the day at Assen…

Nih ada koran

Camier Keluhkan Sikap Biaggi di Tengah Lintasan
[quote=mad]

Checa v Biaggi… as team-mates
When Checa and Biaggi were team-mates...
Spoiler for news

Following round three of the 2011 World Superbike Championship, at Assen, Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi are now first and second in the standings.

At 38 (Checa) and 39 (Biaggi) years old, the pair are among the most experienced on the WSBK grid. Both also spent much of the world championship careers in grand prix racing - and were team-mates at the Factory Yamaha 500cc/MotoGP Team from 1999-2002.

Ahead of what looks like being a 2011 championship battle between the pair, the below table shows how they compared as team-mates.

At Yamaha, Biaggi clearly had the upper hand over Checa on both the 500cc two-stroke (1999-2001) and 990cc four-stroke (2002).

In races that they both finished as team-mates, Checa beat Biaggi on twelve occasions.

However, so far in 2011, it is Carlos and Althea Ducati that hold a 43 point lead over Aprilia's reigning WSBK champion Biaggi.

Biaggi was a four-time world champion in 250cc grand prix racing, while Checa is yet to win a world title in any class. Will that change in 2011?

Checa v Biaggi: 1999-2002
Wins: Checa (0) - Biaggi (8)
Podiums: Checa (12) - Biaggi (28)
Poles: Checa (1) - Biaggi (17)
Points (total): Checa (558) - Biaggi (798)
Best championship position: Checa (5th) - Biaggi (2nd twice)

Pirelli introduce WSBK-spec tyres to BSB
The British Superbike riders will receieve the same Pirelli tyres as those used in the World Superbike Championship this season.

Spoiler for news
Pirelli is set to close the margin of difference between the World Superbike Championship and the British Superbike Championship after confirming it will supply the series' with the same specification tyre.

Having renewed its deal to be the BSB's sole supplier of tyres, Pirelli has confirmed it will make the new SC0, SC1 and SC2 Diablo Superbike tyre compounds available from the opening round at Brands Hatch.

Designed for enhanced durability and performance, the tyres have already been used to good effect by Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill, who took advantage of them to break the Superbike lap record at Cartagena in Spain.

“There's a real air of anticipation surrounding the paddock this year, BSB really is so full of quality and difficult to predict,” said Pirelli racing manager Jason Griffiths. “We are also fortunate to retain so many of the top riders from last year with the addition of Shakey and Hopper who both have such pedigree.

“The Pirelli Diablo Superbike and Diablo Supercorsa tyres we're using for BSB 2011 are 'all new' and are of course, available to customers for track day & racing use.

“The riders have tested the new material in Spain and the UK and we're really looking forward to gauging the performance of the new tyres in race conditions. Pirelli's philosophy means that WSB tyres are available not just for BSB but all Pirelli customers.”
