S3< World Superbike Community 2011 >S3 - Part 2

Spoiler for berita

Carlos ChecaCarlos Checa (Althea Racing) secured his third pole in three race meetings with a fabulous 1 minute 35.292 second lap in the final Superpole session, leading home Jakub Smrz (Effenbert - Liberty Racing Ducati) and Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team). The final place on the front row for Sunday's races was taken by Noriyuki Haga (Pata Racing Team Aprilia).

WSBK » Laverty shows Assen form once again
S3< World Superbike Community 2011 >S3 - Part 2
Having won the World Supersport races at Assen in 2009 and 2010, Eugene Laverty maintained that form to qualify third on his Superbike.

Eugene Laverty's love affair with Assen is well placed to continue into World Superbikes after he claimed a fine third on the grid for the third round.

Laverty, who won the World Supersport race at Assen in 2009 and 2010, propelled himself up the order during Superpole with a series of impressive single lap times, not least in SP3 when he proved just three tenths off the top spot on a race tyre.

However, despite the impressive result, Laverty admits there is still work to be done if he is to cure the Yamaha's stability problems that have plagued him throughout the weekend.

That was certainly an eventful Superpole today. We used our qualifying tyre early on in the session and then had to use a softer race tyre in the final round. I surprised myself with the lap time I achieved. I knew I could make it into the front row but it was a tough battle.

“We have to concentrate on making the bike more stable for tomorrow's race in order to be able to put in consistently fast laps throughout the race. I'm aiming for a podium but a win would also be very nice indeed.”

WSBK » Haga: I’d love to win for Japan
S3< World Superbike Community 2011 >S3 - Part 2
Noriyuki Haga will do all he can to come away with results he can dedicate to his struggling homeland.

Noriyuki Haga has vowed to do everything he can to score two strong results during the third round of the World Superbike Championship at Assen, so he can dedicate them to his native Japan.

The PATA Aprilia rider qualified as the top RSV-4 rider with a spot on the outside of the front row at Assen, the former WSBK runner-up putting in his most convincing performance yet aboard the 2010 title-winning machine.

Targeting a victory challenge come race day, Haga says it would be a particularly poignant moment for him to be able to dedicate good results to Japan, which is struggling to come to terms with the devastating earthquake and tsunami that ravaged the north-east of the country a month ago.

"I'd love to win tomorrow, even if it won't be easy. The aim is to obtain two great results to dedicate to all the Japanese supporters that are going through hard times.

“So far we've been able to do everything at the best, we still have doubts about the setting that could let the tyre stays in good conditions until the end of the race and we'll work during the warm up tomorrow to do the best choice."

WSBK » ‘Inexplicable jerk’ leaves Biaggi mystified
S3< World Superbike Community 2011 >S3 - Part 2
Max Biaggi has just warm-up to find and identify a 'jerking' proble before the two races at Assen.

Max Biaggi says he isn't feeling entirely confident about his chances during the third round of the World Superbike Championship at Assen after discovering an issue on each of his Aprilia Alitalia RSV'4s.

Biaggi crashed in the free practice session ahead of Superpole, the Italian claiming to have been caught out by an 'inexplicable jerk'. He said the same issue arose on his spare bike during Superpole, albeit to a lesser extent.

Though Biaggi would go on to secure a spot on row two in sixth position, the reigning champion admits he is unsure whether it can be rectified before the races now.

“Everything started with the crash in the last practice session, which forced me to use the bike which I've used the least for Superpole,” he said. “The inexplicable jerk which caused the crash came back in a lesser form on the second bike as well.

“In the end we earned this sixth place which isn't bad if we consider the circumstances, but I can't say that I'm completely sorted for tomorrow. Maybe we needed a little more time. Now we'll have to try and shave something off during the warm-up and give it our most during the two races.”
