Dollyo Chagi

Tngkyu bgt infonya..
Bnr tuh bro aduts..dulu prtama kali tau ITF dari Master Lai, (skrg dia 8th dan lho).. Trus gk lama untung bgt ketemu Sabeum Agus dari ITF Bandung, baru tau ada banyak praktisi ITF d Indonesia hehe..

Saya setuju sekale dengan penerapan sistem audit berkala, terutama kalau outsourcing perusahaan swasta yg reliable.. karena terus terang bangsa qta kuat bgt budaya korupsinya..jangan sampe kaya banyak organisasi2 sodara2 beladiri qta yg laen d Indonesia..yg organisasinya banyak dgerogoti dgn korupsi sampai kondisi yg memprihatinkan.

World Taekwondo Festival Dissolves Barrier Between WTF, ITF
(06-29-2008 20:45)

By Kim Tong-hyung
Staff Reporter

The Original, Taekwon-Do (ITF)

Quote:
Taekwondo is loosely translated as ``the way of the fist and foot." However, lengthy conflict between the sport's two governing bodies ― the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) ― meant that the definition became a little bit more complicated.

The Original, Taekwon-Do (ITF)

The Cold War competition between South and North Korea is reflected in taekwondo, believed to be the world's most popular martial art by number of practitioners, with the Seoul-backed WTF and Pyongyang-backed ITF each claiming their authenticity in style and competing for influence.

However, the sport's continued global growth and North Korea's declining influence in the ITF is now creating an environment where the two organizations could develop a productive relationship, says Oscar Oh, the chief organizer of the World Taekwondo Festival.

Oh, also the chairman of Chungcheong University, is one of the first to sow the seeds of change. About 300 ITF members from 20 countries are to participate in the festival, which begins its weeklong schedule Tuesday at venues in the university campus and Cheongju city. It is the first time the ITF will participate in the same event with the WTF on South Korean soil.

The festival, now in its 10th year, is expected to have the participation of more than 3,000 athletes and amateur enthusiasts, which includes 1,000 athletes from 60 countries overseas. Oh has a clear idea about the legacy of this year's festival, which adopted the motto ``WI are one."

``For a long time, WTF was simply regarded as South Korean taekwondo and ITF as North Korean taekwondo, but that composition is starting to change," said Oh in an interview with The Korea Times.

``It is important that ITF members now know that they can freely participate and compete in official events held in South Korea.

``There are some differences in style and technique, but you have to admit that the WTF and ITF are basically representing the same sport, and they should be working together to create a larger pie," he said.

The Original, Taekwon-Do (ITF)

The Split

The rift between the two sporting bodies dates back to 1971, when the South Korean government refused Choi Hong-hi, a South Korean army general and founder of the ITF, permission to teach taekwondo in North Korea.

As a result, Choi went into exile in Canada and moved the ITF headquarters out of South Korea. Responding to Choi's decision, the Seoul government established the WTF in 1973 and the two organizations have been going in separate directions ever since.

The ITF, based on its supremacy in South America and Europe, claims the larger audience among the two federations, accounting for about 37 million of the 60 million taekwondo practitioners worldwide. The WTF takes pride that its game was adopted as an Olympic sport at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney.

Since Choi's death in 2002, a succession of disputes had splinted the ITF into three different groups, all claiming to be the original. Two of the groups, including the faction headed by North Korean International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Chang Ung, are based in Austria, while the third, led by Choi's son, Jung-hwa, is based in Canada.

Although the Pyongyang's Taekwondo Palace is still regarded as ITF's unofficial training headquarters, Oh believes the North Korean influence in taekwondo is fading, especially with Chang expected to retire next year. The group led by the younger Choi has been the most active of the three and has been making clear of its intensions to remove the ITF from North Korean control.

Choi Jung-hwa's group held its world championship competitions at the South Korean city of Daejeon in 2004, the first time ITF taekwondo was featured in the country in over four decades.

Oh, who has developed a close relationship with Choi Jung-hwa in past years, believes that the participation in his festival by the ITF, or Choi's group to be exact, marks another step forward.

``South Korea proudly calls itself the `suzerain state' of taekwondo, but it has failed to deliver leadership and support to the ITF members, who account for more than half of the taekwondo population overseas," said Oh.

``The WTF invests much of their attention on the 600 or so athletes looking to participate in the Olympics and other international events, but what have we done for the 60 million others around the world learning taekwondo? We have to be more attentive to their needs and find more ways to encourage them, and I think the World Taekwondo Festival could contribute a small part to that," he said.

Although the WTF and ITF are headed toward developing a tighter relationship, Oh believes it's premature to discuss the possibilities of a unified organization.

``Neither of the organizations are considering that at this point," said Oh.

``The WTF and ITF had developed in different paths and achieved in different ways, and a healthy competition between the two organizations could benefit the sport.

``However, it would be for the better for all parties if the leaders and athletes of both organizations could meet regularly and share their ideas, and that's where our festival comes in," he said.

The Original, Taekwon-Do (ITF)

Festival Becoming Truly Global

The festival is held in conjunction with the Korea Classic Open, which features international athletes competing under both WTF and ITF rules.

Some of the WTF athletes competing at the Cheongju Indoor Stadium will represent their countries at the Beijing Olympics in August, including Kenya's Milka Alango; New Zealand's Robyn Cheong, Logan Campbell, Vaughn Scott and Matthew Beach; Kazakhstan's Abdurain Rasul; and Japan's Yuki Mitsuhashi.

Another notable participant will be Iraq's Hahmod Abbas Mussa, who is the lone survivor of the country's squad that participated in the 2004 event. The other members all died after being kidnapped and shot. Mussa returns to South Korea as a coach with a trio of teenage competitors.

``Some of the athletes will remain after the festival, and continue to train at the university's facilities before they head to Beijing," Oh said.

``By having WTF and ITF members to compete side by side, the athletes will get a chance to have a better understanding of the different styles and rules. This would also allow them to develop a better appreciation for the beauty and possibility of the sport," he said.

There are some technical differences among the two organizations, with the ITF, unlike the WTF, allowing leg sweeps and hand strikes to the head in competition.

Although the Korea Classic Open will garner much interest within the sport, Oh stresses the event's identity as a festival, rather than just a competitive event.

Aside of competing in taekwondo events, participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of cultural events and tourism programs.

``The main concept of the festival was always an open, cultural event, where taekwondo enthusiasts from all generations could come together and express their love for the sport," said Oh. Most of the foreign participants will be provided their own beds at the university's state-of-the-art dormitory where they will be treated as ``family," Oh said.

``Through the festival, I also want to stress the educational value of taekwondo, which allows young men and women to strengthen their bodies and minds through discipline," said Oh.

Oh, who oversaw the first taekwondo festival in 1998, said that the event was initialized as part of his plans to globalize Chungcheong University.

Students continue to be a big part of the festival, providing key services like food, lodging management, translation and entertainment. About 400 students and school staff will participate in the management of the event, Oh said.

``I was looking for a way to globalize our institution, and figured that nothing would be better than taekwondo," said Oh.

``Students majoring in hotel management, food development, translation and other areas will be provided an important opportunity for on-the-job training," he said.

Oh has been strengthening his efforts to develop the festival into a global event. From 2005, the festival has been rotating between Chungcheong University and international locations on a yearly basis, with the 2005 event held in Taiwan and last year's event held in Malaysia. The organizers are currently receiving bids for the 2009 event, Oh said.

The size of the event has been growing every year. The first festival in 1998 held at Chungcheong University was participated in by 247 athletes from 20 countries. However, last year's event held in Malaysia had more than 1,000 athletes from 25 countries.

``The festival will only get bigger with further participation from ITF members," Oh said.

pertanyaan:
mempertimbangkan rencana North, South Korea plan united team for 2008 Olympics

@feiyue
wah yg vid Muay Thai vs ITF dah liat neh......

komentar yg bisa gw kasih, ni pertandingan nyeremin bgt yah, rulesnya bener2 longgar, sampe si ITF nyikut boleh, gile deh, hehehe.....

tp si muay thai pertahanannya gw liat kebuka bgt tuh, dr awal, kynya gapang bgt si ITF mskin pukulan sama tendangannya, padahal kl diliat relatif tendangan sama pukulannya biasa2 aja (walopun gw jg koit kali klo lawan, heheheeh.....)

trs gw gatau neh, muay thai itu emang tendangannya model nyapu semua, ato adalg yg ke atas2???
soalnya kok kynya, semua tendangan dia gada yg ke atas???

trs sbg ITF-ers (mgkn bisa jadi sebutan baru neh buat praktisi ITF, hehehe....) gw jg bangga neh, walopun Tk-D terkenal buat org2 awam itu bela diri kaki, tapi di sini bisa kita liat betapa mematikannya teknik tangan dari seorang ITF-ers yg bikin tuh muay thai kalang kabut brp kali.....

terakhir, gw mo nanya neh, itu di kaki muay thai, biru-biru pake apa yah???
pelindung tulang kering????
wah rada gak fair dnk kl gt.......
